It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
